It is with huge regret we announce that we are not able to hold the day portion of our 2010 LovEvolution event this year. Love Week, with affiliated events and parties will still take place from Wednesday, September 29th to Sunday, October 3rd.

After last year's successful event, we worked for months on a plan for a parade and festival at Civic Center. Many changes were in the works that would have made the event safer and more enjoyable. Some city departments were still opposed however and we were in discussion about ways of limiting capacity at Civic Center, as over-crowding was the biggest concern. Then the tragedy occurred at LoveParade in Germany. After that weekend, we decided it would be best to seek another location.

Because of the short time for planning and the unavailability of our preferred potential venues, the parking lot of Candlestick Park was the only site available. We announced our intention to move the event to Candlestick for 2010, but were finally told that we would need to go to the Rec and Parks Commission for approval and that permission could not be acquired until two weeks before the event. As that was not enough time to properly produce an event such as ours, we decided to cancel the event for this year.

This has been a difficult decision for everyone involved. Without doubt, it has been an unprecedented summer of tragedies at large events and that has made city authorities very cautious. After five months of discussions, in the end, we decided that it would be best to re-group, reinvent and come back even better than ever next year. That is fully our intention.

Hope you've been having a good summer. We're sorry we haven't been in more frequent communication. If you've been following the news you know it's been a difficult summer for dance music events worldwide, and this has effected us. We've wanted to let you know what's going on but it's kept changing so this is the reason for the delay. We have worked for months with city authorities on a plan that would allow us to continue at Civic Center, but in the end, it was concluded that our Civic Center festival site was not large enough to safely host an event of such huge popularity.

We've been working on an alternative site and continue to do so. We hope to make an announcement next week.  

We DO know that regardless of how things turn out with our day event, we will celebrate Love Week as we always have - with a series of top notch affiliated events from Wednesday to Sunday, showcasing a range of talent in the clubs and other venues. So if you've made plans to come to San Francisco know that there is still plenty of fun to be had.

We're pleased to let you know about an awesome show that LovEvolution Live, Goldenvoice and Tantra are producing at the Warfield featuring Infected Mushroom (performing live and also doing a rare classical mushroom DJ set), as well as the legendary Shpongle and Hallucinogen Live. This event is sure to sell out so we highly recommend a pre-sale. (There is no event at Bill Graham Auditorium this year)

The San Francisco LovEvolution is dedicated to giving back to the community, with a portion of proceeds going to participating non-profit organizations. This year's event is a continuity of past events, with a parade down Market St and festival at Civic Center plaza. A celebration of music, love, diversity, tolerance, dance, and community. Dance music has always had a special ability to bring people together in the shared beauty of a universal vibe. Our community by and large remains 'underground' in U.S. pop culture due to very little support from radio and MTV, etc. We know that in a culture awash in conflict, materialism, superficial concerns, and greed, an event of this kind can lift the spirits and the hopes of those who to surrender to it's power. The power of dance. The power of music. The power of community. We do not dance in the streets to escape the reality of our times - we dance to face them as a community, pointing the direction to a better way, set to beats and the full color of our expression. We gather to inspire and motivate social action by us, the youth, the people who will inherit this mess and have to do something about it to turn the tide. Beat University was originally founded in 2008 as a non-profit dance party at the supperclub in San Francisco. The idea was simple: to throw a great party and donate all the proceeds to create the first ever electronic music scholarship in America. Thus a partnership was formed with the non-profit LovEvolution(formerly LoveFest) and Pyramind: America's premier institute for electronic music production and training.
